Crosswhite named Player of the Week

I speculated that he would get an honourable mention in the voting but it seems the NBL have again gone for the sympathy vote again and given the Player of the Week to Cairns bigman Ian Crosswhite.

I'm not saying he wasn't deserved but the league did something similar the week it looked Sydney were going to collapse. I will say one thing tho ... Crosswhite shot just 4 of 10 from the free-throw line so it was far from the perfect game. But good on him for fighting through a tough week and giving it to the Blaze. Cairns centre Ian Crosswhite has taken out the National Basketball League Player of the Week Award for Round 13 after leading the under-manned Taipans to an overtime victory against the Gold Coast Blaze.

The 210cm big man registered 16 points and a game-high 17 rebounds while adding 2 assists in the Taipans’ 97-88 win at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on Saturday night.

After a horror week where the Taipans were placed into voluntary administration and the team’s two import players, Dave Thomas and Larry Abney, were cut from the roster Crosswhite anchored the team after starting point guard Darnell Mee left the game in the opening quarter with a groin strain.

The win ended a 7-game skid for the Taipans, who improved to 7-12 but stayed in eighth position on the ladder. It was the second time this season that a Taipans player was named Player of the Week, after Mee was recognised in Round 4.
